10.1 Installing IBM WebSphere
The following chapter describes the installation steps for the IBM WebSphere web application server. There is a ResearchGate free download document as follows:

Entitled “WebSphere 8.5.5.15 Installation 29-06-2019 on VMWare Workstation Pro 15.1”. This covers the step-by step base installation and upgrade to IBM WebSphere 8.5.5.15.
We are going to install the latest compatible version of IBM WebSphere application server in this section. It is IBM WebSphere 9.0.5.14 Installation on the Linux server ECMUKDEMO22, which has 32GBytes of memory, 10 virtual Core processors and 500 GBytes Disk space available.
We download the latest version using IBM Software Access Catalog, using the URL:
https://www.ibm.com/partnerworld/program/benefits/software-access-catalog
This can trigger a prompt for IBM’s new two-step verification which is supported by a mobile-based IBM Verify app, used and displays as follows in Figure 10.1.

The search text IBM Websphere Application Server returns the results as shown in Figure 10.2. We select the highlighted list item, IBM WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 for IBM FileNet Content Manager V5.5.9. (Though this version is also used for V5.5.10.)

The IBM WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5 for IBM FileNet Content Manager V5.5.9 software download is selected as shown in Figure 10.3. This downloads the was.repo.90501.base.zip file:

The IBM Installation Manager V1.8.9.4 for Linux x86_64 software is selected as shown in Figure 10.4. This is used to perform the IBM WebSphere Application Server 9.0.5.1 base installation, using a repository.config file which is unpacked after downloading and unpacking the was.repo.90501.base.zip file:

The IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition Version 8.0.5.35 for Linux software is selected as shown in in Figure 10.5:

The IBM WebSphere Application Server V9.0.5.1 Supplements – Application Client software is selected and the I agree radio button option and the Download now command is clicked as shown in Figure 10.8:
